Shaggydog

Sayidan has always been known as a melting pot and gathering point for young enthusiasts of underground music in Yogyakarta. The lively discussions within this tight-knit community have given birth to several bands and served as a nurturing ground for musicians with diverse backgrounds, spanning punk, hardcore, metal, and ska. Shaggydog, led by Heruwa, is one of these bands.

Their story began in a small alleyway in Sayidan, Shaggydog persevered by performing at small gigs until they managed to sell 20,000 copies of their debut release through an independent channel. They have faced market trends, including the “ska boom,” yet have always remained true to their roots.

It’s safe to call them a phenomenon, regardless of emerging trends, they’ve retained their unique character.

Their dedication to this underground genre for over 25 years has inspired us to follow a similar path. We aim to pay tribute to the Gentlemen who believe in their choices that defy conventions and who have faith in the path they create for themselves. Vherkudara aspires to be a platform that symbolizes acceptance for these Gentlemen.

Vherkudara’s tribute to the pioneers of subculture from the ’70s to today who have paved the way for numerous other underground cultures. This is a salute to those who, as time keeps moving forward, remain loyal to their roots, inviting their followers to continue dancing and walk their own path.
